Optimising content delivery to meet the evolving needs of the NHS

By Chloe Barnard, SMART Project Manager at DXS

As the NHS undergoes significant structural change – through ICB consolidation, shifting responsibilities, and a stronger focus on integrated, community-based care – organisations are adapting to meet new demands.

At DXS, we recognise that these changes require not only strategic alignment, but practical improvements in how clinicians access and use information at the point of care. One of the ways we are responding is by evolving our content delivery, focusing on improving consistency, usability and efficiency to better support clinicians working in an increasingly complex and fast-moving environment.

Supporting a more integrated NHS

With fewer, larger ICBs and more clinicians working across wider geographies, consistency has never been more important. Variations in how content is structured and presented can slow down decision-making and create unnecessary friction, particularly for users moving between systems or regions.

Our approach is to reduce this variation and create a more standardised, predictable content experience. This helps ensure that wherever clinicians are working, the system feels familiar, intuitive, and easy to navigate.

Improving usability through consistency

By simplifying how content is presented, we are making it easier for clinicians to quickly find and interpret the information they need.

  • Clearer layouts and navigation
  • Reduced cognitive load
  • Faster recognition of key information

Enabling faster content delivery

In a healthcare system that is continuously evolving, the ability to update content quickly is critical. By adopting a more standardised publication model, we can:

  • Reduce time spent on formatting and maintenance
  • Streamline quality assurance processes
  • Deliver updates more quickly and efficiently

This allows us to respond faster to changes in guidance, pathways, and local requirements – supporting better, more up-to-date care.

Aligning with the future of DXS

While these changes focus on improving the current experience, they also support DXS's broader strategic direction.

By aligning content delivery more closely with the principles underpinning our upcoming platform, DXS Next-Gen, we are creating a more joined-up experience between product and content, ensuring that as the platform evolves, the content model is ready to evolve with it.

A phased and supported transition

We recognise the importance of stability for our customers, which is why this transition is being introduced in a phased and controlled way.

The initial focus is on specific document types where the benefits of standardisation are clearest. Over time, this will build towards a more consistent experience without disrupting clinical workflows.

Looking ahead

As the NHS continues to transform, the need for clarity, efficiency, and consistency will only increase. By simplifying and strengthening our content offering, DXS is ensuring that clinicians are better supported, both today and in the future.
